Secondary English tuition
Our approach to English for Key Stage 3 and 4 is to give students the tools and knowledge to review texts critically, comprehend different styles of language and write competently for a variety of forms, audiences, and purposes. Our aims are to improve the quality of language and literacy as well as to foster a sense of enjoyment and enthusiasm for the spoken and written word.
Our secondary English tuition will enhance vocabulary, grammar, and appreciation of our rich literary heritage. Whilst moving to Key Stage 4 we primarily focus on passing the GCSE English Language and Literature exams. Each session is focused on exam content and how best to answer the questions to boost their grade.
What we cover in Secondary English
Reading
Teaching an enhanced appreciation of fiction, non-fiction, both contemporary and classical, and understanding increasingly challenging texts.
Writing
Teaching how to write accurately and fluently, whether for information or for pleasure; including narratives, descriptive pieces, poetry and much more!
Grammar
Teaching greater grammatical knowledge, increased vocabulary, and the rules of language, how to follow them, and how to break them! As well as being able to identify the grammatical terminology needed in order to obtain a higher banding in the final language exam.
Spoken English
Teaching students to speak confidently and effectively during discussions and presentations.
